  • 1:1 'Ask and Expert' 10-minute appointments, led by cyber advocates, recruitment specialists and workforce development leaders. Make sure to book in advance.
  • Hands-on activities, rotating throughout the day, including technical and non-technical sessions. These will be accessible to everyone (no matter your technical skills), and closely supported by our amazing cyber experts.

Who's This For?

The afternoon session is perfect for:

  • Graduates and tertiary students: Explore different roles, try mini-challenges, talk to your future employers and make a roadmap of how you're going to tackle this new chapter of your life.
  • Current cyber experts: Bring along your friends and family to showcase to them what your job is all about. Explore other roles available in the field you're already an expert in, to see how your skills might align with future prospects.
  • Career changers: Explore new resources, connect with peer groups, and learn how you can leverage your skills to find a role in cyber.
"Cyber is everywhere and impacts everyone - it's more than a technical job behind a computer. Organisations are looking for people with diverse professional skills. This event is a must-attend for anyone looking for a challenge that can make a difference."

Frequently asked questions

How expensive is it?

The Cyber career Symposium is free for all attendees.

Will there be a quiet space?

These events, especially with the number of attendees are often quite loud and bustling. Because of this, we have introduced a quiet space. Anyone who is tired of the noise, hustle and bustle, can take time for themselves, relax and recharge and join in whenever they feel suited to.

I've never attended a career symposium or networking event before. What should I expect and what should I aim to do?

Everyone has been in your shoes once; networking events can seem overwhelming at first, but there are a few things to keep in mind that can be very helpful:

1. Most people also don't know each other. These symposiums are all about meeting potential employers and connecting with new people, who are passionate about the same as you. Have a few questions ready up your sleeve, to help initiate conversations. "What are you working on?" and "How did you get into cyber?" are great starters, that are universally useful to sparking something which may lead to more.

2.  This is not an event where the goal is to secure immediate employment. The goal of this event is to showcase the different cyber roles in Canberra for inspiration and to give you a sense of direction as to where you can go next. Listen closely to the experts and the exhibitors and ask lots of questions about your own journey to get the most out of this!

3. If you're a little unsure of yourself, then feel free to bring along a friend. Going in pairs can be a powerful way to set aside social anxiety. However, if you're going by yourself, then do not fret; most attendees at networking and symposium events are also sole attendees.
